COMMUNITY
ENGAGEMENT
REPORT

2022

In August this year we officially launched The Queensland Commitment - a comprehensive initiative to support Queensland’s future by increasing access to education, engagement and partnership.

While we are just beginning of our 10-year horizon, there are many achievements from The Queensland Commitment to celebrate already.

2022 highlights include:

  • from April – November we visited 13 locations across Queensland, from the Gold Coast to Townsville, and many in between
  • meeting with health, education, government and business sectors to better understand the needs and future partnership opportunities of regional communities
  • visits with Young Achievers partner schools, celebrating the program’s 1300+ participants since 2009, 800 of those were first in family
  • hosting alumni and community events hosted at UQ’s Gatton Campus celebrating its 125-year anniversary, Moreton Bay Research Station, Mon Repos Turtle Centre in Bundaberg, Cowboys Centre of Excellence in Townsville, Home of the Arts on the Gold Coast and more
  • forging new local partnerships to support engagement at UQ’s Boyce Gardens in Toowoomba and Warwick Solar Farm
  • opening UQ Brisbane City –  the CBD ‘front door’ to the University for students, alumni, business, industry, government and researchers to network and collaborate
  • generating significant donor support for need-based scholarships through UQ’s Giving Day and The Queensland Commitment Match launched on World Access to Higher Education Day on 17 November
  • bringing visibility to some of the many extraordinary community engagement programs taking place across Queensland

We look forward to continuing to work with our partners across UQ in the new year.

Please continue to keep us informed about the great work you are doing in communities across Queensland.
