THE GOOD
DOESN'T STOP
MESSAGE FROM THE VICE-CHANCELLOR AND PRESIDENT
The University of Queensland's (UQ) philanthropic campaign Not If, When – the Campaign to Create Change, officially closed at the end of last year.
Thanks to the support of community members like you, we reached the campaign’s ambitious $500 million target one year ahead of schedule. Indeed, by the close of the campaign, our generous community of ChangeMakers had contributed $607 million to the campaign.
Most importantly, the people and projects supported by your generosity are seizing the opportunity to make a difference in the world. The campaign may have ended, but the good doesn’t stop.
Having taken up my position as Vice-Chancellor and President of UQ in August 2020, I feel privileged to be able to see the impact of this giving in action.
Thank you for choosing to partner with the University to achieve our vision for a better world.
We are proud to have you in our community of ChangeMakers.
Professor Deborah Terry AO
Vice-Chancellor and President

MESSAGE FROM THE CAMPAIGN CO-CHAIRS
When we embarked on our journey as Co-Chairs of Not If, When – the Campaign to Create Change, we never could have anticipated the extraordinary response from you, our community of ChangeMakers.
Throughout the campaign, you have remained a constant source of inspiration for us, as well as for those who have benefitted from your gifts.
Countless students have received scholarships funded by donors like you, and we have felt privileged to witness the transformative power of education in their lives. Our teaching and learning programs are thriving – all thanks to your generous investment in world-class academics and facilities. And at centres across the University, our researchers have been empowered by you to uncover incredible solutions to some of our greatest challenges.
In our own personal journey – as both a researcher and a teacher – we have experienced first-hand the impact that the generosity of people like you can have on individual lives, on communities, and on the world.
The ongoing impact of your support is immeasurable. We cannot thank you enough for joining us on this journey to create change.

There are more than 607 million reasons to thank you following the close of Not If, When – the Campaign to Create Change.
Because of you, students have been given support when they needed it most, research outcomes have been accelerated, and world-class academics and facilities can be found right here at UQ.

Beyond the dollars raised, the true success of this campaign is best illustrated in the stories of those who have been directly impacted by your generosity. In the pages that follow, you will find just a few. We hope you enjoy reading them – please know that you have made them possible.

2020: More support than ever

The final year of the campaign was our most generous year yet at UQ. With a renewed focus, our donors bolstered the UQ community during a time of unprecedented challenges.
The efforts of UQ researchers to fast-track a promising vaccine candidate for COVID-19 was met with overwhelming support from more than 2600 members of our alumni, donor and corporate community, committing over $10 million to help accelerate the project.
On UQ Giving Day 2020, a united UQ – staff, students, alumni and their communities – came together to help students by donating to the COVID-19 Student Emergency Support Fund to provide vital assistance to UQ students affected financially by the pandemic and other worthy causes. On the day we received almost $300,000 in support from 428 donors for causes across the University.
With an unwavering commitment to removing financial barriers to higher education, nearly 1000 donors partnered with UQ to grow our scholarship endowment by $11.25 million under the Create Change Scholarship Match. This groundswell created 130 new scholarships to support talented UQ students experiencing hardship, year after year, generation after generation.
These are just some of the many acts of kindness we saw in 2020. In the pages that follow, you will see some more highlights from the historic final year of the Not if, when campaign.

The University's Greatest Need Fund
In 2020, over $88,000 was donated to the University’s Greatest Need Fund, which was then distributed to the following causes of importance.

Thank you...

The Not if, when campaign leaves a legacy that extends well beyond the gifts received. United by an unwavering care for humanity and one another, the UQ community is stronger and more connected than ever.
Through gifts of both time and treasure, you have helped shape a brighter future for generations to follow.
Together, we have made history with the success of our first major philanthropic campaign.
As we embark on the next chapter in UQ’s legacy, the message is simple: the good doesn’t stop.
We will continue to partner with our community to make an impact – transforming students' lives through the gift of education, accelerating research and enriching our teaching and learning environment.
We are also exploring new ways to ensure you can stay connected with the University and, importantly, to one another – no matter where you are.
We look forward to sharing our exciting plans with you soon. Until then, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
Because of you, the good doesn’t stop.
