Bird's eye view of a paradise in Brisbane's backyard

Even if you live in an urban area such as Brisbane, you may find on our doorstep sit some wonderful spots bursting with amazing flora and fauna, just waiting to be explored and enjoyed.
A recent guided nature walk hosted by The University of Queensland invited alumni to enjoy the Oxley Creek Common, a serene patch of bird-inhabited wetland in Rocklea, located just 11km outside of the Brisbane CBD.
With over 180 species of birds inhabiting the wetlands, guests were treated to some incredible bird spotting and photography opportunities.
Queensland Chief Scientist and UQ Vice Chancellor’s Senior Research Fellow Professor Hugh Possingham provided his wide breadth of expertise on birdlife, conservation, and biodiversity during the guided walk.
With so many beautiful corners of the world situated so close to home, the importance of conserving them is more apparent than ever.
If you want to help in the fight to protect these precious spots, please consider donating to the UQ Biodiversity Conservation Fund.
Your support will help arrest the decline of biodiversity and support the preservation and recovery of remaining flora and fauna in Australia.
