UQ marketing and communications news

October 2018

Release of UQ Brand Guidelines

On 1 October, UQ moved to a single and consistent brand to support the brand refresh project. New brand guidelines are now available online, along with a range of templates and answers to frequently asked questions. OMC will continue to add templates to the website throughout October.

The release of the guidelines marks an important milestone for the project, and implementation will take some time.

It is important that any artwork you produce is sent to OMC for approval to ensure brand compliance in these early stages after its launch.

Please direct any enquiries or approval requests to brand@uq.edu.au.

Research Week wrap-up

OMC and ODVCR would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who contributed to UQ’s Research Week celebrations in September.

The week was once again a huge success, with a variety of events, publications and activities held across the week, culminating in the 2018 UQ Research Awards gala event at Customs House. This year saw the largest number of awards and commendations in the event’s history, which is testament to the high calibre of research at UQ. You can view videos of the award winners here.

For the first time, OMC produced a suite of digital screens to showcase UQ’s research talent across disciplines and research stages. These were designed to be used beyond Research Week, so please continue to display them on rotation on digital screens in your area.

OMC also developed five Research Impact case study wrap-ups for Research Week – all stories received lower than 25% bounce rates and between five and 12 minutes on page across hundreds of unique readers. If you didn’t get a chance yourself, make sure you take the time to read about the incredible research UQ is doing in educationmarine sciencesubstance abuseaerospace technology and food-supply protection. Special thanks to the faculty and institute communications teams who assisted with pulling these together within very short timeframes this year.

The 2018 edition of the six-page Research Impact brochure is also available in print for use at events and for other marketing purposes. Contact the OMC Publications team for copies.

UQ Written Style Guide

The online guide to written style at UQ is an authoritative guide for staff when writing any internal or external communications and marketing materials across all print and digital media.

To ensure the guide remains current, usable and relevant, a working group of staff members from units across UQ meets regularly to discuss style issues and queries that arise in their day-to-day work.

If you are interested in joining the working group, email the Publications team – new members are encouraged.
